FAQ

What is the chief advantage of color enhanced mulch?

If you have seen color enhanced mulch anywhere, you already know.  The advantage is colorfully apparent.  Moreover, the mulch holds its vibrant color for a full season.  No other natural mulch on the market remains lively and colorful from spring through fall.

How much color enhanced mulch should I use?

The recommended application depth for any mulch is two inches.  Don't continue to add layers, as this will promote diseases and a non-conducive environment for your plants.  Always apply lighter amounts around annuals and keep mulch away for the base of your trees and shrubs.

How do I figure out how much I need?

We sell our Mulch in "YARDS."  A "Yard" of mulch is actually a cubic yard.  Picture all the mulch you would fit into a carton that is one yard (3 feet) in every dimension.  That's a yard of mulch.  Now simply follow this formula to translate from feet to yards: Length X width (expressed in feet) X application depth (expressed in feet)  divided by 27 (to convert feet to cubic yards) = number of yards.
Example, for a two-inch layer of much for a 4' by 45' row of shrubs:
4 x 45 x 2/12 (2" depth divided by 12") divided by 27 = 180 x 1/6 divided by 27 = 30 divided by 27 = 1.1 yards.

If I do stain something, will it clean up?

Yes, especially if you wash the stain before it dries.  No matter where the stain is - clothes, house, walkway, the best cleaning solution in hot soapy water.  For pavement, a stiff brush yields the best results.  The staining will dissipate with little effort.

What are some application tips?

Lay down a tarp first before dumping your mulch, this will minimize any temporary staining of your lawn or driveway.
Wear old clothes and gloves when applying the mulch.
If you dump your mulch directly onto your drive, wet the surface prior to dumping and again immediately after the mulch has been removed.  Make sure to rinse before the surface has had time to dry.

How do I achieve the best results with color enhanced mulch?

Very easily.  Don't spread your mulch when it is raining.  Allow the color to lock into the wood fiber through air-drying.  That means you want to let any surface moisture dry out before applying the mulch.  Also we encourage you to lightly rake the surface of your mulch at mid-season to revive the color intensity.  That will help ensure vivid color all season long.
